Planning notes

What to know about Alicante & Costa Blanca.

Where charters depart

The marinas at Altea, Calpe, Moraira, Jávea and Dénia are closest to the most scenic stretch of the coast. Alicante's marina suits guests staying in the city. We choose the departure point based on where you are staying and the route you would like.

The coastline worth seeing

Between Altea and Dénia the coast rises into headlands and cliffs. Highlights include the Peñón de Ifach at Calpe, coves around Moraira and Jávea such as Granadella and Portitxol, and the cliffs of Cap de la Nau. Some coves are easiest to reach from the sea.

Seagrass and anchoring

The region protects its Posidonia seagrass meadows, and anchoring over them is restricted. Skippers anchor on sand or use moorings where available, which affects where a boat can stop. This is one reason we leave the exact route to the skipper on the day.

Protected areas

Parts of the coast, including natural parks and marine reserves, have their own rules on access, anchoring and activities. Operators plan routes within these rules, and we tell you about any limits before you book.

When to go

Seasonal planning for private yacht charter on the costa blanca
May – JuneWarm days, generally settled seas and good availability. A good time for a full day out.
July – AugustHot, lively and busy. The best boats and sunset slots book up first, so inquire four to eight weeks ahead.
September – OctoberThe sea is at its warmest and the marinas quieten. A favourite time for celebrations on board.
November – AprilSome operators sail on calm, sunny days. Plans depend more on the weather, so stay flexible.

How a quote is prepared

Charter prices depend on the vessel's type and size, the duration and the season. Fuel is sometimes included and sometimes charged by consumption, depending on the operator and the route. Catering, drinks, extra crew and marina fees vary too. Your written proposal names the operator and the vessel, and shows exactly what is included and what is charged separately.

  • Vessel type and size
  • Charter duration and season
  • Fuel, which depends on the route and distance covered
  • Catering, drinks and any additional crew
  • Marina fees and transfers

Swimming stops, anchorages and routes depend on weather, sea conditions and local regulations. Your skipper has the final say on safety.

Questions & answers

How long should we charter for?

A half day, usually about four hours, is enough for a cove and a swim. A full day allows lunch and a longer route along the coast. A sunset cruise is the shortest option and works well before dinner.

Do we need a boating licence?

No. The charters we arrange come with a licensed skipper or crew provided by the operator.

Is fuel included in the price?

It depends on the operator and the boat. Some include fuel for a typical route; others charge for what is used. Your proposal states which applies.

What happens if the sea is too rough?

Safety comes first and the skipper makes the final decision. If conditions are unsuitable, the operator offers another date or the remedy set out in your confirmed booking.

Can we combine a charter with a villa dinner or a private chef?

Yes. Many clients follow a day on the water with a private chef at their villa. We coordinate both so the timings fit together.
