Planning a marriage proposal on Lake Como

In short

Serenaia plans private marriage proposals on Lake Como. We choose the setting with you, check permissions and timing, and arrange discreet photography, flowers and a dinner afterwards. Most proposals here take place between April and October, on a private boat, a villa or hotel terrace, or in a garden. Plan four to six weeks ahead if you can.

What we arrange

Proposal in Lake Como, planned around you.

  • The setting

Two or three shortlisted options matched to the time of day, the level of privacy you want and how easy each is to reach.

  • A private boat

A skippered boat for the proposal itself, or to take you to dinner afterwards, without ferry timetables.

  • Flowers and styling

Florals and candles coordinated with a local florist, set up quietly before you arrive.

  • Discreet photography

A photographer briefed to blend in until the moment, then stay for portraits while the light lasts.

  • Dinner afterwards

A table with a view, a private terrace dinner or a private chef, booked to follow on naturally.

  • Transfers

A chauffeur from Milan or between villages, so the evening runs to time.

Planning notes

What to know about Lake Como.

Choose the shore by the time of day

Villages on the western shore, such as Tremezzina and Cernobbio, face east and catch the morning sun. The eastern shore around Varenna faces west and holds the evening light longer. Bellagio sits on the point where the lake's branches meet and has views in several directions. We suggest settings to suit the time you have in mind.

Historic villas have their own rules

Several of the lake's best-known villas and gardens are museums or heritage properties. Each sets its own rules on private use, photography and opening hours. Where a property offers private or out-of-hours access, it needs that property's approval and usually a fee. We confirm this in writing before we suggest it.

On the water

The lake is often calmest early in the day, and a breeze commonly picks up in the afternoon. For a proposal on the boat, we build the timing around conditions on the day, and your skipper has the final say on safety.

Public spaces are busy in summer

The village promenades and piers are lively from June to September, and local rules on alcohol, drones and decorations vary from one municipality to the next. For real privacy we usually recommend a private terrace, a garden or the boat.

When to go

Seasonal planning for planning a marriage proposal on lake como
April – MayGardens in bloom and fewer visitors. Evenings can be cool, so we plan a sheltered alternative.
June – AugustThe longest evenings and the warmest weather, and also the busiest months. Book boats and photographers first.
September – OctoberSofter light and quieter villages. Some services shorten their hours towards the end of October.
November – MarchMany hotels and some boat services close. A proposal is still possible, with fewer settings to choose from.

How a quote is prepared

We don't publish package prices because the main costs vary a great deal. They depend on whether the setting charges a fee or needs exclusive use, how long you want the boat, the floral design, how much photography or film you want, and the dinner afterwards. After a short conversation we send a written proposal that lists each element, the provider delivering it and its conditions.

  • Location, permits and exclusivity
  • Floral design and decor
  • Photography or film coverage
  • Transport, boats or musicians
  • Dining and celebration arrangements afterwards

Questions & answers

Where is the best place to propose on Lake Como?

There is no single best place. It depends on the time of day, how private you want the moment to be, and how far you are happy to travel. The most popular choices are a private boat at golden hour, a terrace with a lake view, or a garden. We suggest two or three options based on your plans.

Can we propose at one of the famous villas?

Sometimes. Heritage villas set their own rules on private use, photography and opening times, and some do not allow private events at all. Where it is possible, it usually involves a fee and a fixed time slot. We check current conditions with the property before including it in a proposal.

How do you keep the proposal a secret?

We communicate only with you, through the channel you choose. Nothing is sent to shared addresses. The photographer is briefed to look like any other visitor until the moment.

What happens if it rains?

Every outdoor plan has a sheltered alternative, such as a covered terrace or a private room, and we agree a decision time with you in advance.

How far in advance should I plan?

Four to six weeks is ideal. For Saturdays from June to September, or if you have a particular setting in mind, inquire earlier. Shorter timelines are sometimes possible, and we will tell you honestly what can be done.

Tell us what you have in mind.

Share what you know so far. A person reads every request and replies with questions or ideas. Nothing is booked until you approve a written proposal.
